I’ve been a Beauty Pie member for around a year now (not too sure what Beauty Pie is? You can read my complete guide here) and thought it was time for another round up of the products I’ve been trying and an honest review of which ones are worth splurging your allowance on.
Triple Hyaluronic Acid Serum
I love this serum! I’ve noticed a huge difference to my skin since I started using it which has in the past has felt very lacklustre and dehydrated. Unlike other serums, this one is made with three weights of hyaluronic acid (HA BT .1%, HYSILK .1%, HYALO OLIGO .3%) for an intense hydration. It is kind of pricey compared to other hyaluronic serums, currently £16.58, but I’ve been using it every day since November and still have half a bottle left so it’s definitely worth the splurge. A little tip to get the best out of this serum – damped your face before you apply and press it into the skin, rather than rub in and make sure you always follow up with moisturiser.
Japanfusion Hydra Prep Lotion
I’ve been wanting to try Beauty Pie’s Japanfusion range for a while now after spying it all over Instagram and lusting after the pretty pink packaging. This toner is the first of three steps in the 3-step super skin moisture system and is used after cleansing to soothe, hydrate and prep your skin ready for serums and oils. I’m not sure about its ‘super-charging’ power, but it does make my skin feel hydrated and soft after each use and leaves a delightful scent on the skin. I love using it after using an acid peel mask like The Ordinary’s AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution, when my skin is in need of a little extra soothing. However, whilst it’s a pretty bottle to have on the shelf, I’m not sure if it’s something I’d order again mostly because I’m not 100% sold on the ‘super-charging’ power claims.
Japanfusion Supreme Cream
The other Japanfusion item I ordered was the Supreme Cream, the 3rd and final step in the routine. It’s described as being intensely moisturising and promises a hydrated, plump and dewy complexion thanks to ingredients like Vitamin C and grape polyphenol. At first I loved using this cream as at the time my skin was feeling incredibly dehydrated and tight, especially around my nose and chin. It felt so luxurious to apply and initially it did leave my skin looking dewy and fresh and feeling hydrated. However after a while I found it to be a bit too heavy and that if I applied too much, my face felt like it was slathered in grease and I’d have to wipe it off. Despite having rave reviews online, I’ve decided that one is just not for me and I much prefer the Glossier Priming Moisturiser Rich which has the same hydrating effects without the added greasiness.
Super Healthy Hair Elastic Repair Treatment
After deciding to go back to blonde in August, my hair has been needing a lot more TLC to keep it healthy and looking shiny. OLAPLEX is hailed as the holy grail for bleached hair but it’s pretty pricey, so when Beauty Pie launched its new haircare range which included this mask, I thought I’d give it a try. Described as a “super-glossing, nourishing booster for over-processed hair”, it’s packed with amino acids and GLOSSX4 to seal and repair damaged hair and split ends all for the low price of just £5.64. Sadly though, this didn’t quite meet my expectations. After the first use I did feel like my hair was softer and looking shinier, but the effects didn’t seem to last long and after getting through nearly half a bottle, I wasn’t seeing any real long term improvements to the condition of my hair. I’ve since caved and bought OLAPLEX and my hair has improved no end so I guess it really is worth all that hype after all.
Super Healthy Skin Ultralight UVA/UVB SPF 25
I have a confession to make. I have only recently started applying SPF on my face daily. I know, I know. A huge no no, especially as I’ve been using acid based products on my face for quite a while now. I struggled to find one that was both affordable and high quality but after reading the reviews on the Beauty Pie website, I felt like I might have finally found the one. It’s scentless, leaves no white residue and best of all absorbs quickly so you can apply makeup soon after without having to worry about your skin getting tacky. It also has added hyaluronic acid meaning its hydrating and leaves skin feeling silky soft. For £7.68, it’s a steal and one I’ll be reordering again, especially now summer is right around the corner. I’ve also spied that Beauty Pie will soon be selling a SPF 50 version which I’m sure will be a huge hit.
Super Active Capsules Pure Double Vitamin C & Vitamin E Serum
Vitamin C is hailed as one of those essential skincare ingredients as it’s great at brightening your skin and reducing the appearance of redness and hyperpigmentation. Each capsule contains two strengths of Vitamin V: pure vitamin c (10%) which helps protect skin from environmental damage, improve firmness, even out skin tone, and minimize the appearance of lines and wrinkles and Vitamin C in microsponge which (0.5%), provides a slow release of Vitamin C.
I’d never used Vitamin C products in my skincare routine before but thought I’d give these capsules a try after seeing them reviewed on Instagram. I love the idea of having serums in little capsules as it’s such an easy way to ensure you’re using the correct amount of product each time. It’s also super handy for when you’re packing your gym bag as you can just drop a single capsule in rather than taking a bulky container. Within a few days of using these I was noticing that my skin looked so much brighter and more dewy than before and was even getting compliments from friends who were asking what my secret was.
After a couple of weeks though, I did start getting a really bad rash around my chin/nose area, and whilst I wasn’t sure if it was due to this product, as it was new to my skincare routine I decided to stop using them for a while and I’ve since started using a Vitamin C serum by The Ordinary which I get on very well with.
For the past few months I’ve been letting my membership allowance build up and I’m planning a massive post lockdown Beauty Pie haul which will include a few of the more pricey items I’ve had my eye on for a while. So keep an eye out for another Beauty Pie review in a few months time!
