I’m a little late getting to this one, but in my defense, I only recently managed to collect my Birchbox from work due to my long overdue holiday in Paris. Now though, I’ve finally had time to sit down, take a look at all the products and give them all a little try. So, lets get reviewing!
This month, Birchbox collaborated with Elizabeth Scarlett for a Palm Leaves & Warm Breeze edit – it definitely offered up those much needed summer vibes! Lately I have been obsessed with this kind of tropical print so straight away I was impressed. That though is kind of where the good vibes ended for me…
Inside the box there was:
- Eyeko Skinny Liquid eyeliner in black
- Native Unearthed Activated Charcoal Natural Deodorant Balm
- Caudalie Make-up Removing Cleansing Oil
- Doucce Luscious Lip Stain
- Greenfrog Botanic Botanical Bodywash – Geranium and Peppermint
I’ve used the Eyeko eyeliner before and been a big fan, and my favourite Kat Von D one had actually just ran out, so this came at a good time for me. It’s very black and the felt tip makes it fairly easier to apply, although it does seem to be dragging on my eyelid so my lines aren’t as neat as I’d like.
The Doucce Lipstain came in the Amber Rose shade. It’s got a matte finish, which made me worry it would be really dry but thankfully, it went on really smoothly and left my lips feeling hydrated. For a lip stain though, I feel like it didn’t have much staying power. I put it on after work, and it wasn’t able to survive my evening meal – not good.
I have a few friends who use natural deodorants and rave about the benefits of going chemical free, so I was intrigued when I saw this in the box. Applying this though wasn’t all that pleasant. The paste inside the glass jar is pretty hard, so you kind of have to dig your fingers into it to get any out. If you have long nails its going to get nice and embedded underneath them. You then rub it onto your skin and it feels like a nice, silky balm. It smells nice and does a good job as a deodorant – I’ve been testing it out on two very warm days. I just don’t like digging it out of the jar to apply it.
There’s not really much to say about the Greenfrog body wash. It smelt good, but for me didn’t foam up all that well so felt like i had to use a lot at a time.
Finally, the makeup removing makeup oil. You warm it up in the palm of your hands before applying it to your face to gently remove makeup. It washes off easily in warm water and does leave skin feeling soft. Apparently it can even remove waterproof makeup. It didn’t do a very good job on mascara though, I had to use micellar water after to truly get it all off. It’s ok, but it won’t be replacing my usual cleansers.
I’ll be honest, this hasn’t been my favourite Birchbox. A lot of the items I didn’t particularly enjoy, and wouldn’t use them again. Hopefully next month will be better.
