Christmas party makeup

The Christmas party season is soon to be upon us and I cannot wait! I love to dress up in sparkly clothes, do my makeup all glam, and dance the night away sipping prosecco and delicious cocktails. Of course, once the outfits have been decided, the conversation amongst my friends and I always turns to makeup. “How are you going to do your eyes?” and “What about your lipstick?” are the big questions asked and the stress of trying to decide on a smokey eye or classic cat eye/red lip combo always gets too much for some of my more indecisive friends.

Over the years, I have developed a Christmas party makeup look that I know always looks good and is guaranteed compliments and lucky for you I’m going to share it with you! It goes with all sorts of outfits and hairstyles, so I never have to really stress, especially if I’m in a rush and don’t have the time to be a little adventurous. Check it out below!

For the base, I like to start with a primer (surprise, surprise) and my current favourite is the Two Faced Hungover X, which is really moisturising. Others I really like are the Benefit Porefessional or the Charlotte Tilbury Wonderglow. Next, I use the Nars Sheer Glow foundation and buff it in so that it looks really natural. My current concealer is the Benefit Boi-ing lightening, which has a nice creamy consistency that it is easy to blend in, and hides dark circles well – perfect for the morning after a big night out too! At the age of 25 I have legit only discovered about face powder to set your foundation. Right now I’m using the Rimmel Stay Matte, but I have heard amazing things about the Glossier Wowder and Laura Mercier Translucent Setting Powder too.

Tis the season to be glowing! In my opinion, there is no such thing as too much highlighter during the festive period, hands up if you agree? I like to apply a liquid or cream highlighter first, like the Benefit High Beam, or Glossier Halloscope to the cheekbones, forehead, cupids bow and bridge of nose and then set with a powder highlighter like the one in the Charlotte Tilbury Bronze and Glow palette. The two together just make you look so glowy and perfect all night long. Sculpted cheekbones are also an essential, and the bronzer in the Charlotte Tilbury palette is the perfect, buildable shade for my pale skin. If I’m wearing a tan, then I like to use the Benefit Hoola liquid Bronzer and the NYX Contour Palette.

Glittery eyes are an essential party look. The more sparkle the better, after all, if you can’t go all out at Christmas, when can you? My go-to party eye look is the Charlotte Tilbury Dolce Vita palette, which is a super flattering red-y brown smokey eye with a feline flick and finished with a pop of glittery gold and lots of Better than Sex mascara. It’s so easy to do, and looks so decadent. There was one Christmas night out where I had to do the same look on three of my friends and it looked so good on each of them. I also really like glittery blacks and browns in the Two Faced Natural Eyes palette.

Personally, when I’m doing a dramatic eye, I like to keep the lips a bit more simple. A nice pinky nude, or simple berry tone in matte shades are perfect for finishing off any Christmas party look. My current favourites are Pillow Talk and Bond Girl by Charlotte Tilbury, or the Lipstick Queen Saint & Sinner Lip Tint in Dusty Rose. The lip tint is really long lasting and doesn’t dry out my lips, which makes reapplying a dream!

Finish with a spritz of Urban Decay Setting Spray, your favourite perfume, and your dancing shoes and you’re ready to go!

What’s your go to Christmas party makeup look? Let me know!
