Madeira Photo Diary

Now that I have finally recovered from my post holiday blues to the jaw droppingly beautiful Portuguese island of Madeira, I thought it was finally time to share some of the beautiful sights that were seen and the adventures that were had over the week.

The island is located off the west coast of Africa, think the Canary Islands only not as far, and has a population of over 267,000 and is perhaps most famous for its cake and wine. It’s history dates back to the 1400s and walking around its capital city Funchal, you can see some of the oldest buildings on the island. Leave the hustle and bustle behind though and get up into the mountains for some incredible views of rugged volcanoes and breathtaking cliff drops.

If you follow me on Instagram ( and if you don’t, you should be!), then  you’ll already have seen a few holiday snaps but trust me, there are hundreds more. Don’t worry though, I’ve narrowed it down to just the highlights!

We stayed in the Pestana Carlton Madiera Hotel, right next to the ocean and it was honestly one of the most beautiful hotels I’ve stayed in. The ocean and cliff views were stunning and the bottomless prosecco at breakfast every morning was a particular highlight!

When we could bare to drag ourselves away from one of the F O U R hotel pools, we explored Funchal’s historic Old Town, which is famous for it’s painted doors and winding lanes.

Another day, another adventure! A 4×4 tour around the west side of the island exploring mountains and picture perfect towns.

Have any of you been to Madeira? What were your highlights? Let me know in the comments!
